One of the constant comments we get from guests and people calling to inquire about Covered Wagon is that they are impressed by the amount of flexibility we offer. Being a small, family operated ranch, we absolutely have the ability to make your stay just about as personal and exciting as you would like. We offer many activities on and off ranch, cater to any foodie, and even allow the basic flexibility in dates – with a three night minimum stay, coming and leaving on any date you choose. We are somewhat unique in the amount of personalization we encourage our guests to have in their vacation here.
First of all, activities! Of course, we are first and foremost a riding ranch with an amazing horseback program (see a couple blogs earlier for the details on that). No sign ups here, just whatever our guests want to do every day – and you needn’t decide what you feel like until that morning or afternoon. But, if you would like a day away from the horses or are visiting us as a non-rider, we have so many more options to interest you. We are located right across the road from the Gallatin River, world-famous for its fly fishing. We would be more than happy to introduce anyone to the Gallatin River Guides if you want to take a trip and a lesson, or just to show you right on the ranch at the Taylor Fork what everything is all about (there’s a rumor that Kurt may know how to catch some fish). Catching fish not your thing? Well then throw on some hiking boots and explore the beautiful Gallatin National forest. Any of our trails that we ride can be hiked as well, and there is the perfect beginner’s climb starting from behind our Rec Hall and ending up on Benson Point – showing off some of our ranch history and breathtaking views of the Gallatin Canyon. Want to do something a little more adventurous? We definitely recommend Geyser Whitewater for some fun rafting the river. It is a rush and something everyone should experience at least once, not to mention a really cool way to see more of our area. Water not your forte? Well we can hook you up with a Zip Line in Big Sky that will give you a bird’s eye view of our gorgeous mountains. And this is just the start. You can take a ride on the lift on the mountain for a less athletic view of the area, or rock climb, go skeet shooting, bird watching, pretty much anything you can imagine we can do for you, or find someone who will. Of course, the largest attraction is Yellowstone National Park. And if you want to explore, we can either recommend a tour guide for you, or simply give you some clues as to our favorite parts of the park. Most of our guests have rental cars, and all of our crew would be more than happy to tell you something you just shouldn’t miss out on! Of course, relaxation is just as important as adventure in a vacation, so feel free to take a day to read a book, relax in a rocking chair on your cabin’s front porch, or soak in our hot tub. We promise the Montana air will do you wonders of good.
Next we have our wonderful dining accommodations. We have breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style, with tons of options for every palate. And of course our dinners are served family style, with good conversation and company. Our ever popular cookie jars provide some variety as well, always full and available for a quick snack. Even lunch on the trail is personalized, with each of our guests filling out sandwich cards to be made to order, and completing the meal with chips, fruit, carrots, cheese sticks, and anything else you guys desire! Have something that you absolutely can’t go for a week without? Please let us know, and we will make sure to provide it. Our dining staff is also really wonderful at accommodating any food allergy or diet specifications. When you book, we will send you forms asking for any restrictions or requests – and please don’t be shy! We love all of our guests, even those with gluten free diets or allergies to shellfish 🙂 All of the meals are special here at the ranch, from eggs to dessert.
Covered Wagon offers many options for everyone, from children to adults. Kids age six and up can ride, and the younger ones we would be happy to pony around the ranch. We have a cowpoke corral for them to hang out and have some fun, as well as a Rec Hall filled with a foosball table, pool table, books and games to have fun with. We always have s’mores supplies around, especially at our campfire every night and at Friday night cookouts. On Fridays (and every day), our wranglers would be more than happy to teach everyone how to rope, and we have a ton of fun playing roping games with the kids. If your children are interested in horses (and what kid isn’t?), send them down to the corrals to learn how to brush their new horse friends and anything else they would like to know! Of course, one of the biggest attractions at the ranch is the Wrangle, which takes place on Saturday afternoons and sometimes during the week too. It is a must-see for any guest, new or returning!
Here at the ranch, we pride ourselves on the personalized experience each and every one of our guests has. From food to activities to riding to playing games, we want every single person on the ranch to have an amazing stay. Let us know if you have any special requests, and we really look forward to making your stay the best for you!
